I was so pleased and excited to see the Killdeer bird couple return for the second year in a row. I saw them previous to this on February 14, Valentine’s Day! It was almost as if they were scouting out their future home, and they stopped by to say hello. The Killdeer couple often switch off with one another to relieve each other with their long sitting hours, so the bird that has been sitting over the four eggs, can relax and find some food for himself/herself.
It’s not too difficult to remember to not get too close to their lovely nest, as they’ll always let you know with their serious-sounding chirping sounds. Their devotion and love for their future family is tireless, day and night, sunshine to raging storms.
